About the Artist

I love to paint. I stare long and hard at my subject and can be literally overwhelmed by its breath and color. I ‘ve had a revelation in years past as to just how much I love staring, entering into the subject, consuming it, making it my own. I love to stare.

Beginning with my thumbnail sketch, I create the abstract bones that are the skeleton on which the value, color, temperature, focal point, paint thickness and line will be hung. I tell my students that painting and drawing are like juggling twenty-five balls of different sizes. Each must be tossed into the air at just the right time, with the right intensity to make the whole show a performance to inspire awe.

For me, time restraints and responsibilities are a consideration. Alas, a short time is simply not enough. I need a lengthy session to become my painting. I love each painting and it is me and I own it. The subject literally incorporates my being, just as I am visually and emotionally taking it into myself.
It is daunting, this business of being an artist. It requires courage, tremendous courage to take chances and attempt compositions, colors, media and myriads of concepts that may work out. Big risks yield the greatest rewards. I listen carefully when my essence tells me, "This could be really amazing. No one else has done it. Do it !"

My artistic valor rarely wavers. Because, after all, I am knowing how the supreme being felt when she created space, earth, oceans, animals and people. My art is like that. It becomes a very intimate experience, the painting bec
omes another installment of myself.
